About

My name is Carli.

I am a graduate student training to become a licensed professional counselor.

I enjoy reading, playing guitar, and spending weekends on the Jersey shore.

I do not enjoy arrogant musicians of the 90s, public transportation, and manic depressive vampires.

Chess

My nerd-o-meter is consistently on the rise these days…

This past year at my internship, I counseled a 9-year-old boy named Nassan, who has serious anger and aggression issues, particularly in competitive situations.  So throughout the year, our therapy sessions have been focused on me kicking his ass in boardgames and monitoring his emotional responses.  We’ve played it all:  Checkers, Uno, War, Guess Who?, Connect Four, etcetera.  My favorite game was Chess.  I really enjoyed how much thought and strategy goes into the game, much like my other love, Scrabble. Since I finished my internship, I realized I missed playing boardgames, so I’ve taken up playing chess online in my spare time (yahoogames, of course).  I’ve played about thirty games thus far, and I’ve only won once (and I’m pretty sure the guy let me win because he kept attempting to flirt with me via the little chatbox in the site).

My dad is a pretty big chess fan, so we played on the beach today.  I assumed he was going to kick my ass, but I held my own.  Of course I still lost, but I managed to take his Queen and held off my King’s demise for at least twenty minutes after that.

In sum: Chess is challenging and I really enjoy it.  Call me a nerd, but with my track record I’ve already earned that title, so call me Nerd to the Tenth Power if you’d like.

If anyone would like to play online with me, game on.
